big on buzznet!

this is why, this is why, this is why i'm hot....(yeah i just quoted some dude named "mims". deal.)

so, do i really need to explain my "big on buzznet"-ness? my life in new york is fully nutty. it's been NON-STOP since i moved here and there's ZERO chance it's going to be slowing down anytime soon. it's like superhero central over here and the characters i hang with are fully the off-the-wall types YOU want to lurk.

ok enough about me. modesty is sexy when you know how hard you kick it. back to the promoting the hotness: NEW FAVORITE BAND ALERT!

THE CONSEQUENCE!

i'm pretty sure Maroon 5 and Young Love just had a baby and named it The Consequence. Jason Tate at AP.net says they've got a "fucking massive single up their sleeves".....um TRUTH! HOLY WHOA. this demo is blowing. my. mind, i haven't been this stoked on a dance jam since "Discotech". DID YOU HEAR WHAT I JUST SAID?!?! gaaaaah. that's huge! actually, that's an epic life statement! you should lurk the crap out their myspace because you're going to want to be so on top of this band, i PROMISE. (note: Bree, i know you're going to be SO into them, just saying) a few djs (aka: me and rob hitt.com) are playing the shit out of their new jam, so if you really want a listen come out to AK and we'll make your ears explode. otherwise, you'll just have to wait for the.....party in your bedroom.

oh and PS: who decided THIS KID should get a buzznet phone..jeeez (HA! i joke, xo CB)

Nightlife Awards!

reposted for junk-mag!

Often New York nightlife awards poll a selection of party promoters, industry people, and other influentials, failing to take into account the votes of any actual partygoers. This, to us, seems unnecessarily exclusive. So we are putting the vote to you: the downtown party kids, the socialgays, the dancefloor junkies, and the bridge and tunnel crowd. You are the people who buy the drinks and dance to the music. Let us know by voting below what your favorites are, and if your choices aren’t listed, add them in at the bottom.

i would be so stoked on actually seeing a rainbow right now...

goo. to. this. weather. it's fully rainy and gross and weird in NYC today. however, the new Radiohead album, “In Rainbows” is available for download and i really can't think of tunes more fitting for today's vibe. am i right or am i right?

ok a) let me admit that i have never been a huge Radiohead fan. it's non-offensive music to me. i never really disliked them, but i would never really give myself the "fan" status. however, i'm am REALLY interested in how they're releasing this album and will support that in any way i can. (ie: buy the album and steal)

did any of you guys read the New York Times article (you need to log in) on Rick Rubin? it’s really interesting stuff, and it touches on how the music industry needs to drastically change how it sells music as a way to combat illegal downloading. so. effing. true. who thought that SUING the shit out of people, and keeping the old system would work? yikes. i’m also reading book right now that you should all check out called The Long Tail” by Chris Anderson (*see footnote) and it talks about business models for a digital world. it’s really really REALLY interesting. it basically lays the framework for companies and industries to change the way the sell their products. it also talks a lot about the history of selling things and it's pretty easy to see how the businesses  have had to adapt to changes in culture in order to increase their profits.

i’m not saying this Radiohead system is exactly the way to go, but it's shaking things up a bit right? i fully believe that people are instinctively good humans and we are OK with paying someone for a respectable service and a quality product. (as long as it’s fair to us). when given the opportunity people want to do the “right” thing. here is good music, at a fair price, it’s easy for me to consume and once I buy it, it’s mine with few limitations. perfect.

holy round table discussion batman…

ok so, who bought this album? what do you think about the music? what do you think of the way it was sold? what would be your ideal way to buy music? ohhh I have a million more questions. gimme your thoughts!

(*you can read an article on "The Long Tail" that was published in Wired Magazine here. It will give you a sense of what the book is about")
