fake monday for real

so..i got out of the city for 4 days this weekend. it felt amazing. i love NYC, but nothing beats playing wiffle ball in backyard while drinking beers. we also engaged in some EPIC games of SORRY. do you all remember this game? it rules for serious. i know you’re thinking “hey that’s a kids game”. FALSE. this is the classic game of sweet revenege and playing at age 23 kind of owns. i went on a 4 game win streak and am now have a commanding lead in our overall game total. (suck it, J’s) oh and jesse bought a Wii last week and i have a pretty big crush on it. i’m a little video game retarded, but i’m catching on quickly. i love that you actually MOVE while playing the sports games. Wii = my new workout routine.

other stuffs of semi notable value:

  • OMG! after months of rumors TOPSHOP is officially coming to NYC. holy whoa this girl is excited!!i’m praying for a SOHO location for real.
  • i love the single, so i bought the new maroon 5 album last night in hopes of having a summer crush. FALSE. i’ll give it another listen on the train home tonight, but most of the songs just sound like awkard b-sides from songs about jane. bum out.
  • can anyone recommend a good new perfume? (i’m embarrassed to say what i’ve been wearing for the past 2 years even though i kind of loved it.) it’s time for a new scent. i’m looking for something light, clean and classic. oh and the bottle has to be killer too, i won’t stand for poorly designed perfume bottles. any suggestions?
  • and finally a few little party notes: this weekend is Jesse’s 30th birthday: come hang if you’re 21+. and MYYYYYYYYY birthday is coming up on June 23rd and i will be having a Stolen Transmission bash on Friday June 22nd at AK47…..sooo start buying your perfect gifts now.

and if i sent you a lurkhard package can you post pics you yourself wearing the buttons? FANX.

Answer:

dj rossstar asked for a list of the top 5 albums that we love from start to finish.

PHEW! i decided to go with a top 6, basically just because it made my fun album grid look better. (HA!) no seriously, this is a lot harder than it sounds. there are a lot of classic albums that i love, but once i really started to think about it there was at least one song that i usually skip. these are always albums that i still listen to pretty regularly even years after their releases. the time test is key!

honorable mentions:  the roots: things fall apart / the postal service: give up / motion city soundtrack: i am the movie / nightmare of you: nightmare of you / cartel: chroma / monty are I: wall of people / def leppard: hysteria / the matches: e. von dahl killed the locals and decomposer / lily allen: alright still / fall out boy: take this to your grave and infinity on high / the cure: staring at the sea / letter kills: the bridge

EDIT: as i'm thinking even MORE about this, i really think i need to include at least one of the matches albums in my top 6.

and finally, links to people who's musical opinions i actually care about:

michellebybell / everyonelistens / secretsout / cici / neglectnormalcy? / jiscilla? / cdeck? / vivalawhitegirl?

on tuesday The Horrors released their U.S. debut, Strange House on Stolen Transmission Records and announced that they were canceling their tour with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. a band that's actually worth your time and money

dear shawn harris: welcome to the blog-o-sphere.

this dude is an interesting character. i’m amp’d to see what he what he has to say in his new blog and i’m hoping we’ll get posts with some art work too. he has a wonderful artistic style.

but anyhow today’s earlier entry totes bummed me out. this band is honestly, and completely one of my favorite bands of all time. top 5 legit. it’s completely insane to me that band nickleback could sell 40,000 records last week and the matches are worried about their record slipping into the shadows of obscurity". decomposer is a GREAT album. the matches put on a KILLER live show. witty lyrics, excellent graphics, front man with some flare, cute faces, WHATS THE PROBLEM HERE?!?! people jumped at the chance to knock cartel for their media ready bubble promotion, but honestly getting people to listen to your music is HARD. (or so i’m learning) sure pimping dr. pepper isn’t for everyone, but if someone is willing to spend money (a lot!) to promote you, i'm thinking it might just be worth it…

so seriously, what are you waiting for? go buy decomposer. *petey wentz told you * to check it out MONTHS ago, and your still draggin your feet. phhffst. i won't let you down.

(**sorry I thought I’d be able to link to the exact journal but I can’t find it. trust me, he said it. fobrock. early fall. lurk that)

tweet, tweet.

phew, sunday was fun, probally a little bit too much fun. the boys from MONTY ARE I were in town, which means we kicked it up "montourage" style. they rocked the knitting factory pretty hard ( i SWEAR that band keeps getting better and better and better). steve let me and jessica listen to some new tracks he's been working on. HOLY WHOA. one song, totally super jam. it's already stuck in my head. i can't wait to hear it played with a full band. wowzerz. why arn't they everyone's new favorite band yet? anyhow- after the show we ended up at the delancy (regrettably missing the open bar) where we put our fun in the hands of dj rob hitt.com. never a failure. steve and i FINALLY got to rock out to def leppard's "photograph" together again. we both have a large level of lurve for this song. someday we're going to see them live together and pretend like it's 1983, but until then a simple rock out in a bar will do. we held down a pretty killer dance party for a sunday because i seriously have the coolest friends on the planet. that is all.

did anyone see spiderman 3? it was terrible, don't bother.

FIRSTCRUSH'S WEEKLY CRUSHES!

google reader: OMG! this thing is LIFE changing. I SWEARS. it's a must have for super internet lurkers. it collects all the updates from your favorite sites and blogs, and puts them in ONE neat little web browser and it lets you know when there are new posts. i seriously love google almost as much as i love apple, and that's a whole hell of a lot. ohoh and you can access your readers SO easy from sidekicks. lurk on the go! bookmarks are a thing of the past! no more obessive clicking from site to site! gaaah, it's totally genius. (thanks ezgi for getting me hooked. you mml f'reals)

cartel in a bubble: only 9 days and counting until cartel enters the bubble and starts recording their album. bring on the LOLZ! check out the bubble homepage; this whole thing cracks me up. "SAVE IT FOR TV!!" apparently if you drink lots of soda and rot your brain out, you can win "cool cartel merch". whoa. tune in to the 23 (23 flavors, duh!) live web cams on june 2nd and you might see some very special guests. wink, wink. now, who's in the mood for a dr. pepper?!?!

31 corn lane: bonnie jane introduced me to their line last year and it's totally the cutest most amazing stuff ever. i lurve my hobbie bag to death. (no seriously, one of the big red button just fell off from high usage) and the summer line is CUTE OVERLOAD. it's pretty simple, i need it ALL.

powerspace: STILL CRUSHIN! you can now buy the first single from their debut album HERE. please to it. it's totally worth your quarters, i promise.

fyi: if you messaged me about them, i'm sending out LURK HARD buttons at the end of this week.

caterday.

do you ever get that feeling that events in your life are totally open ending until you write about them on the internetz? what? no? i’m just a crazy internet obsessed loser, ok..cool, moving on.

angels & kings (aka AK47, or A&K, or AK or whatever i feel like typing) opened: woot. it's tiny, and a little bit awkward, but I kinda lurve it. going out to one place and knowing your going to see all your favorite people rules. word on the street is that it’s finally getting some sound proofing this week, so Sarah and Karen can crank the Friday night tunes. dance parties will quickly follow.

SIDENOTE: there is always 2 or 3 out of context Wentz fans there, i’m not even kidding. it’s awesome that your over 21 and lurve FOB (hollur, lets start a support group) but seriously, you're out of context and everyone can tell. i honestly don’t write this in a mean spirited way, get down with your out of context self. it’s just an interesting observation.

bamboozle happened: i saw some fun performances. paramore, cartel, motion city soundtrack, treos, monty are i and the matches were great, per usual. i  got to see say anything and powerspace for the first time and i  was equally impressed. i still get so stoked out on stupid live shows. just the whole experience of jumping. singing and fist pumping with my friends in the crowd is the best. it was the best feeling when I was 13 and it’s still the best feeling now.....

oh speaking of that feeling, yesterday afternoon during some kind of epic hang sess at republic in union aqaure, i got to listen to josh madden talk about loving music, getting stoked out on young bands, DIY stuff, and being uber dorky, and it was one of THE most refreshing things i’d heard in a long time. also: ordinary clothing silkscreening bandanas for free at their merch tent during day one of 'boozle was pretty effing solid. more people need to start doing fun stuff like this.

everybody hurts release party: the annex + angels and kings. things got messy. gawker wrote about it. I LURVE this book. go buy it.

chris black: i love it when atlanta's finest and our buddy CB randomly shows up in NYC. this kid ALWAYS cracks us up. new favorite CB quote "SAVE IT FOR TV!!"   ps: cartel in le bubble. stoked? who doesn't love mtv reality shows?

gurjeet turned 25 at AK last night. HAPPY BIRTHDAY HARLOT BREATH!!!

tickets for motion city soundtrack's summer tour went on sale today.catch a date in your city with sherwood, the higher..and the forecast. BUY. TICKETS. NOW. MCS is one of my favorite bands ever, and it’s important that you go dance for my roommate so he doesn’t feel like an abandoned puppy.

this is the worst journal update ever.

Stolen Transmission News!

via ultragrrrl:

We here at Stolen Transmission are very excited to announce two new bands to the family:

Last Tuesday, Innerpartysystem signed to us... in blood. I'm not kidding you. Please click on their name and go to their website to view their signing video, where you will see them signing in blood. The music in the background is theirs (apart from the musak in the elevator). Innerpartysystem will be performing on Wednesday night at Fat Baby at 9:30pm.

On Thursday evening, Schoolyard Heroes signed to us... over red red wine. We have been fans of the band for two years, so it was nice to finally have them come into the fold. The band will be joining the Horrors on their first headlining North American Tour!

WEDNEDSAY CRUSHES!

oh hi. quick update before the week gets nutty crazy. if you haven't been living under a rock for the past few months, you know that this weekend is the Bamboozle festival in NJ which means scenemo week is in FULL effect in NYC. (the opening of Angels & Kings is just adding to the nonsense) jiscilla posted a nice little update of where you’ll find us, and I’m def looking forward to hangs with all my favorite faces this weekend.

FIRSTCRUSH'S WEDNEDSAY CRUSHES!

things I’m currently crushing on:

  • CLARISSA EXPLAINS IT ALL: on dvd. serious style icon on my childhood. this show is absolute genius, and if you’ve never seen it GO BUY! it’s totally worth it, fergwad. I had THE best Saturday night with my roomies and jiscil, watching this show and sipping on my latest vodka concoction. just sayin if this show was on now, it’d have a killer indie soundtrack and I’m thinking it could blow the early OC out of the water.

  • POWERSPACE: I think this band is collectively 12 years old, (or at least they are in my head) but their EP is already sending me into AAR style flip outs. holy whoa. I’m stoked.com to see them play boozle this weekend and they have a full length album coming out on everyone’s favorite label of the moment, FBR.

  • AMERICAN APPAREL: okok this is LAME I know. everyone knows and loves AA, BUT I went on a serious anti-AA spree for the past 6 months because their clothes are BEYOND over-priced and cut to fit anorexics only. since I feel in neither the rich nor skinny category I headed a one woman unofficial boycott. WHOOPS that’s over. picket line CROSSED. their summer stuffs is TOO perfect. they have some AMAZINGLY soft tee’s this season, and for only $18, I’m not going to complain. EEEP and really cute 70s style gym shorts too……..i’m over the fact that my thighs needs an XL, they look hot regardless. right?

  • MISSBEHAVE MAGAZINE: HARDCORE CRUSH ALERT! this magazine makes my like (mml) for real. the writing is SO sassy I can’t even deal. (and they say I’m not a rapper?!) the whole first half is a section called ADHD (or something) and it’s a compilations of quick, hysterical blurbs about music, fashion, trends, movie stars, whatever.  UH DILF section with Alec “I hate my kid” Baldwin. OH HOLLUR! this is only the 3rd issue of the mag which stokes me out even more, I LOVE start ups. The best thing ever is getting in on a mag at ground level and watching it develop…..or errrr maybe that’s just cool fo me and Jessica? Anyway, they need a little work on their interviews, but fashion spreads, but this one has SERIOUS potential. I wish it was the size of Teen Vogue so I could slip it in my purse and take it everywhere....don't sleep on this one!

  • DESIGN: so amp’d on the projects I’ve worked on in the past week or so. I’m setting alysia up with a logo system for her make-up business (add her on myspace) that is really adorable and I can’t wait to get the final files sent and ready for the interwebz. oh hay, did you hear a new bar opened in NYC this week? there is definitely a hoodie in the works for that, and I’m really hyped on the design. I hope that become a real boy soon. oh and something else fun lurkhard stuff for bamboozle! YEAH!!!!!!!!!

phew. fin. i'm going to go drink a peppermint tea now and get hyped for Paramore and High Voltage tonight. k?

lurkhard,

firstxcrush
