April 17, 2007

is it only tuesday?

goo. the weather in NYC has been absolutely gross. nothing makes me want to stay in bed/go to sleep early/ be lazy more than rain and cold mcnasty-ness. antisocial isn’t even doing justice to how I feel right now. (one bright spot: curbside marathon hangs on Saturday… watch out for up to the minute documentation as the day unfolds)

oh and this:

HA!

I love The Horrors just because they inspire art work like this and yes, I’m convinced that band is actually a series of muppets made from real human hair. get into it.

lurk this review of their debut album Strange House. after 4 months of listening to this band i still can't settle on how i feel about their music but I’m almost 100% sure that they will be banished from 75% of clubs that they play on their up coming U.S. tour. just a prediction…….

the donnas and other stuff worth reading.

so, i've promised my faithful buzznet readers (wait, do I HAVE faithful buzznet readers?) some epic journage.....and finally..it's here...

the past 2 months have been totally nutty. again Jessica takes all with her streamlined update . i basically did all that minus the boy love. although i did get to share in the boy antics and i miss the little fartface already...

wait does anyone actually care to read about what i've been doing with my life? we've been going out a lot and i realized hipster night life if exactly like high school politics, only with more open bars and less showering. i'd just like to say that High Voltage at Sutra is officially my new favorite party. it's the stupidest dance fest ever, and i love it. i know, i know, "the cool kids" started a new wednesday night party, but seriously hipster scum is hipster scum any way you slice it, and this scum would rather be dancing with Sutra scum to Gwen Stefani…JUST SAYIN.....also: i've been making some fun stuff. i posted a link to my lone portfolio in my last entry. please check that out and let me know what you think. sorry i've been crap with making stuff for people.

ok enough about me..lets move on to...

ERICA'S SUPER STOKED BAND OF THE WEEK!

THE DONNAS!

i used to be SUPER stoked on The Donnas back in high school.  when Get Skintight came out in 1999, and i was itching to listen to girl rock instead of the ska bands that all the boys had laid claim too. i was a huge Operation Ivy fan at this point, and they proved to be a nice gateway to new tunes. The Donnas were the first band that i felt like were my very own. i discovered them first in my circle of friends and felt as if it was my duty to pass their music along. i could finally share something new that no one had heard before. at that point in my life i was big into the on DIY scene i remember writing to Lookout Records (did they have a sweet roster in 1998 or what?!) for a button pack and making my mom call records stores to see which CD's they had instock this week. i made my own "DONNA E" t-shirt with puffy paint and sharpie markers and i felt like that coolest girl in the world. it was the first time in my life that i felt musically empowered.  so wait what? you've never heard The Donnas?!?! GAHHHHH!  download now: Rock N Roll Machine & Take It Off. seriously eff dudes, and this emo movement is lame....chicks who like cheeseburgers and hot rods are whats up in '07...

other important music related  junk that you might enjoy:

  • Monty Are I's album is on sale in itunes for $7.99. seriously? $7.99?  I will find it personally insulting if you don't buy it….
  • The Jeetz is stoked out on this upcoming tour: The Bravey, The Photo Atlas and The Cinematics, and honestly how can you blame her. this is FOR SURE worth your babysitting money…..i'll be dancing my face off at one, maybe both of the NYC dates. come hang.

The Cinematics, The Photo Atlas, The Bravery
Fri-May-25 Cleveland / Agora Ballroom
Sat-May26 Detroit / Magic Stick
Mon-May-28 / Toronto / Opera House
Tue-May-29 / New York / Irving Plaza
Wed-May-30 / New York/ Irving Plaza
Sun-Jun-03 / Nashville / Exit In
Tue-Jun-05 / Philadelphia / Theatre Of The Living Arts
Thu-Jun-07 / Washington / 9:30 Club
Tue-Jun-12 /Reno / New Oasis (formerly The Oasis)
Wed-Jun-13 / Salt Lake City / Club Sound (formerly Bricks)
Thu-Jun-14 / Denver / Gothic Theatre
Fri-Jun-15 / Papillion (Omaha) / The Rock
Mon-Jun-18 / Minneapolis / Varsity Theater
Tue-Jun-19 / Kansas City / Beaumont Club
Wed-Jun-20 / SAUGET (St. Louis) / Pop's

  • I love free stuff, (wait who DOESN'T love free stuff?) especially free unstolen music. that shit is gold. so FYI: the title track of The Cinematics debut album, A Strange Education, is the featured single of the week on itunes (or so says Le Jeetz)!  uhgeah! go. download. now.
  • Congratulations to iSurrender Records who announced their signing of Four Year Strong this week. i'm glad we'll get to hear some actual tracks in the near future instead of the crap demos i've been trying to listening to for a couple months and purevolume on repeat. BOO.

oh and HEY BAMBOOZLE!!!! officially my favorite time of the year, summer swings into full effect and i get to see all my favorite faces. this girl = hyped. leave me a quick comment if you've going to be attending…i've got something super fun planned and it may or may not include free buttons. ok no, it definitely includes free buttons.....getintoit!

how emo is the month of April?

GET STOKED ON THE EMO BOOK!

the lolz drop april 24th  so plan on picking up a copy. (if for no other reason than Trevor Kelly and Leslie Simon both being so fucking adorable.) ALSO: if you send them a letter, your address and a stamp, you get super cute buttons back! WHOA! how Lookout Records is that?!?! click the picture for more info and to become their myspace bestie.

oh so hey. remember that BBC waffle hood I linked to a while back? uhhhyeah. jesse and I found it in a reversible form where the other side is chocolate bars. WHUUUUUT?!?! it’s pretty stupid (aka amazing) and i def broke down and bought one. I’m kinda stoked to wear it everyday of my life…..I actually fell asleep in it last night. how cool am i?! (pics soon)

my friend ben has been listening to this band a lot lately, Forever the Sickest Kids. I can’t tell if I’m into them or not. all this stuff is starting to sound the same to me. thoughts?

I have 2 books that I’ve started reading and haven’t finished. “Edie” and “How Indie Rock Changed My Life”. I’m hoping to dive into them this weekend when I have a little time off to relax in CT. I’m considering leaving my laptop at home, but I doubt I’ll actually go that extreme....the internet will miss me too much.

and lastly: big ups to buzznet lizy and the always hysterical ashlee for the fun hangs last friday. xo
